Hot sauce was poured in the eyes of a teenage boy by his mother and a friend as a punishment, according to authorities, who have arrested the two adults on child abuse charges in a Salt Lake City suburb this week.
The two adults have been arrested on suspicion of duct-taping the 14 year old and forcing him to inhale marijuana, as well as punishing him by pouring hot sauce in his eyes.
West Valley Police Sgt. Jason Hauer has said, "This is not discipline that any child should have to go through. It's definitely abuse," according to ABC News.
Hauer also confirmed that the teenager has been returned to his father's custody as the investigation continues into his mother and her friend.
Mom, Robin Willette Rumsey, and her friend, Krista Jean Miller, were arrested Tuesday on multiple felony child abuse and endangerment charges
According to police the 38 year old mother and her 33 year old friend began abusing the boy about two years ago. He was initially punished for breaking a glass dish by having Tabasco sauce poured in his eyes, according to a probable cause statement used to hold the women at the Salt Lake County jail.
He also had alcohol poured in his face and was locked in a basement, according to reports.
Miller's foster mother, Marsha Christensen, has reportedly claimed that the accusations are false and that the allegations have been made up as part of an ongoing custody battle for the boy.
Hauer, however, has said investigators have no information on any custody fight.
"This case is full of mysteries. There are a lot of questions coming up that I don't have answers to, mostly because the case is still active," Hauer said Thursday, according to ABC News. "The arrests made two days ago with Krista and Robin are probably just the beginning of other allegations that are going to come to light in this case."
